The Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand resolution and weights in Serre's conjecture for n-dimensional Galois representations

We will discuss an extension of Serre's conjecture, due to Ash and collaborators and to Herzig, that predicts the modular weights of an n-dimensional Galois representation. We will sketch the proof of a result towards this conjecture, that comes down to finding the jumps in the Hodge filtration of the cohomology of a certain sheaf. The emphasis of the talk will be on the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand resolution of representations of GL_n, which provides an elegant way to do this.
