4:00 pm Thursday, August 24, 2017 Colloquium: The abc Conjecture and the d(abc) Theoremby Hector Pasten (Harvard) in HBH 227- The abc Conjecture is a central problem in number theory, relating the additive and multiplicative structure of the integers. In this talk I will recall this problem and some selected applications to give an idea of why it is relevant. Then I will explain the available unconditional results towards the abc Conjecture. Finally, I will discuss a recent result in this context, the d(abc) Theorem, and I will present some of the ideas used to prove it.
