3:00 pm Monday, March 24, 2014 Algebraic Geometry Working Seminar: Intersection Theoryby Nikita Kozin (Rice) in HB 453- Given X, a subscheme of another scheme Y, possibly singular, there is a natural way to define specific class of cycles in Chow group of X, which is called "Segre class of a subscheme X in Y" and denoted "s(X,Y)". In this talk we will try to understand how to construct such a class (which might include cycles of various dimensions). In particular, the construction involves the notion of a "normal cone", whose discussion will take most part of the talk. We will cover classes 11 and 12 from Ravi Vakil's Intersection Theory notes.
