4:00 pm Tuesday, September 10, 2013 Algebraic Geometry Seminar: Twisted commutative algebrasby Steven Sam (Berkeley) in HB 227- Twisted commutative algebras provide a framework for studying ``large'' algebraic structures with ``large'' groups of symmetry; alternatively they provide a formalism for stability. I'll give an introduction and some motivation from algebraic geometry (syzygies of Segre-Veronese embeddings and invariant theory). I'll describe some joint work with Snowden on infinite polynomial rings and mention some open problems.
