4:00 pm Thursday, January 17, 2013 Colloquium: Some gluing constructions in Geometryby Nicolaos Kapouleas (Brown) in HB 227- I will concentrate mostly on doubling and desingularization constructions for minimal surfaces in a Riemannian manifold, and on gluing constructions for Special Lagrangian cones in $\C^n$. In doubling constructions minimal surfaces are constructed which resemble two copies of a given minimal surface joined by a number of catenoidal bridges. In desingularization constructions minimal surfaces are constructed resembling given minimal surfaces intersecting along curves with neighborhoods of the curves of intersection replaced by a large number of handles modeled after the singly periodic Scherk surfaces. In the Special Lagrangian cone constructions (with Mark Haskins) rotationally invariant special Lagrangian cones are ``fused'' to produce special Lagrangian cones of new more complicated topological types.
