4:00 pm Monday, March 9, 2009 Dissertation Defense: Higher-order analogues of genus and slice genus of classical knotsby
Peter Horn [mail] (Rice) in HB 427- I will define and discuss several 'higher-order' notions of the genus and slice genus of knots in S^3. I will provide many examples to show that all of the higher-order genera are independent from one another and also independent of many classical knot invariants. I use these invariants to give a geometric refinement of the Cochran-Orr-Teichner filtrations of the classical knot concordance group.
